WEST EDMESTON
(NY) – A young lady is on the move, and
she’s moving fast. Sierra Lister just celebrated
the completion of her rookie season in
Mini-Sprints, and by this time next year she
will be celebrating the completion of once
again, another debut season.
After
completing a full schedule of Mini-Sprint
competition in 2007 which comprised of the
Central New York Mini-Sprint Series as well as
several hit and miss shows at the Whip City
Speedway, the 15-year-old Lister is ready for
another hurdle. While compiling a slew of
top-ten finishes as well as her first feature
win (outside of go-karts) in ‘07, Lister is
heading up to the sprawling Capital Region
Sprint Car Assocation (CRSA) in ‘08. She will
once again race for the family team; owned by
her Stepfather; Ray Drake.
The
growing CRSA organization, using the popular
305ci engine will be welcoming Lister with open
arms as the West Edmeston (NY) student will be
their first female driver to take on their
Series full-time during its short three-year
history.
Currently, while still in possession of two
Mini-Sprints used throughout ’07, Drake will be
putting one on the market and maintain ownership
of the other to use sporadically in 2008. New
equipment on the way consists of their new 305
engine, currently being built in Pennsylvania,
and a brand new Maxim sprint-car chassis,
expected to grace their shop prior to completion
of the powerplant.
“Plans
right now are to be ready to take advantage of
the early spring practice sessions, especially
at the Genesee and Utica-Rome (Speedways),”
quoted Sierra’s Mother, Barb Drake. “We’re also
hoping to have both the 305 and Mini-Sprint
ready for the Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo
at Syracuse in March.” Although the team will
rush to gain seat time in getting Sierra
accommodated to the new 305 endeavor, the team
will be towing their Mini-Sprint to compete at
the Nationals in Knoxville, Indiana on May 3rd.
The haul to Knoxville will be the first and
biggest trip for the team, and they will be
taking in the event with optimistic hopes.
In
judging hopes for '08, Lister will shoot for the
same goals as she did in 2007. She closed the
2007 campaign with the Rookie of the Year title
along the Central New York Mini-Sprint Series as
well as at the Whip City Speedway. The same
title along the CRSA Series will solidify her
goal.
